Baking Pan Size Chart

Areas of common round, square, rectangular and loaf pans, with which pans are interchangeable.

Pans with about the same bottom area can be swapped without changing the recipe, as long as they are similar in depth. The last column scales a recipe written for a 9" round pan.

How to use the chart

Keep the batter depth similar and baking times stay similar; check doneness a few minutes early in a larger pan.

Frequently asked questions

What pan is the same as a 9-inch round?

An 8" square (64 sq in) is practically the same as a 9" round (63.6 sq in).

Can I use two 9-inch rounds instead of a 9×13?

Two 9" rounds have about 127 sq in versus 117 sq in for a 9×13, so the batter will be slightly thinner. That usually works; check for doneness a little early.
